I was born and raised in Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia. After graduating from Xavier High School, I briefly attended the University of Guam, then served in the U.S. Coast Guard for seven years. Within those same seven years, I married and gave birth to a wonderful son.
As a forever learner and education advocate, I pursued my bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership. After five rigorous school years (yes, for me! Juggling a full-time job, full-time mother, and a full-time student was not easy. But it is doable!). I graduated in May 2020 from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS.
I have been speaking both Chuukese and English since kindergarten, so I decided to capitalize on my capability to be a bilingual speaker and signed up to be an interpreter. This was supposed to be a tentative plan to professionally interpret and translate until I could find a better job opportunity. Or so I thought. COVID-19 hit, and it changed my perspectives on my temporary role as an interpreter and translator. My job as a Chuukese interpreter and translator became indispensable and a hot commodity. My part became an essential instrument in the medical field and the Chuukese Community, and other agencies across the United States of America. I saw, heard, and felt the positive rippling effects of being an interpreter.
My family, work experiences, and the people I was fortunate to interpret for, but most significantly, my dearest son, have inspired me to establish ecBilingual.
